5 Days Zanzibar Escape

Zanzibar, Ocean Islands

(7 Reviews)

From 1860 US$ / Person

Description

Since Zanzibar is a mix of history, culture, and white-sand relaxation, the best way to structure it is to split the stay: Stone Town for the history and The North / East Coast for the beaches.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival & Stone Town Sunset

Afternoon: Pick up from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) or the Ferry Terminal. Transfer to your hotel in Stone Town.

Evening: Walk to Forodhani Gardens for the famous street food market (try the Zanzibar Pizza!). End the night with a sunset drink at the Africa House Hotel or a rooftop bar.

Stay: Maru Maru Hotel or Dhow Palace Hotel.

Day 2 History & Spice Infusion

Morning: Guided walking tour of Stone Town. Visit the Slave Market Memorial, the Old Fort, and the narrow winding alleys.

Afternoon: Take a short boat ride to Prison Island to see the Giant Aldabra Tortoises (some are over 150 years old).

Late Afternoon: Visit a Spice Plantation on the way to the coast. This is a sensory experience where you smell and taste cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla.

Stay: Transfer to a beach resort in Nungwi or Kendwa.

Day 3 Safari Blue & Sandbank Picnic

Full Day: The "Safari Blue" experience. Board a traditional wooden dhow for a day of sailing in Menai Bay.

Activities: Snorkeling in turquoise waters, swimming in a hidden mangrove lagoon, and a seafood BBQ lunch (lobster, calamari, fish) on a deserted sandbank.

Stay: Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort or Zuri Zanzibar.

Day 4 Dolphins & The Rock Restaurant

Morning: Drive to Kizimkazi for a boat trip. If lucky, you can swim near wild dolphins. (Alternatively: Visit Jozani Forest to see the rare Red Colobus Monkeys).

Afternoon: Lunch at the world-famous The Rock Restaurant—a restaurant built on a coral outcrop in the middle of the ocean.

Evening: Free time for water sports (Kite surfing or diving) or relaxing at the resort.

Stay: Beach Resort.

Day 5 Relax & Departure

Morning: A final swim in the Indian Ocean and a relaxed breakfast.

Afternoon: Last-minute souvenir shopping in the local village before the transfer back to the airport for departure.
