Introduction:
The Machame Route is a wonderfully designed route. This route is shorter than either Northern Circuit or Lemosho Routes, but still offers good acclimatization since on several days, after trekking higher up, you descend to a slightly lower altitude for overnight rest. This route starts on the southern side of the mountain and merges with the Lemosho Route and Umbwe Route. This is a busy route. This itinerary is offered as a private trek (the 7 days variation is offered as a open group trek, but not the 6 days itinerary).

Itinerary
Day 1 Moshi - Machame Gate - Machame Camp
Moshi (890 m/2,920 ft) to Machame Gate (1,490 m/4,890 ft) to Machame Camp (2,980 m/9,780 ft) 18 km, 5-7 walking hours in Montane Forest
After breakfast from 06:30am to 07:30amyou will be transferred to the starting point of Entrance gate and ready to start the hike.
You will enjoy a welcome lunch stop halfway up and will reach the Machame camping area in the late afternoon.
Dinner and Overnight at Machame Camp
Day 2 Machame Camp - Shira Camp
Machame Camp (2,980 m/9,780 ft) to Shira Camp (3,840 m/12,600 ft) 9 km, 4-6 hours walking in Moorland
Early at Machame camp at around 06:30am, and after breakfast, you will start the hike at around 07:30am, towards Shira campsite.
Dinner and overnight at Shira Camp.
Day 3 Shira Camp - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp
Shira Camp (3,840 m/12,500 ft) to Lava Tower (4,630 m/15,190 ft) to Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960 ft) 15 km, approximately 7 hours walking on Semi-Desert
Wake up at 06:30am and breakfast at 07:00am walk through a rocky landscape to reach the prominent landmark called Lava Tower at 4,630 m/15,190 ft. This chunky remnant of Kilimanjaro earlier volcanic activity is several hundred feet high, and the trail passes right below it.
After a lunch stop, descend below the lower cliffs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall to Barranco Camp at 3,950 m/12,960 ft.
Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.
Day 4 Barranco Camp - Barafu Camp
Barranco Camp (3,950 m/12,960 ft) to Barafu Camp (4,550 m/14,930 ft) 3 km, approximately 8 hours walking on Alpine Desert
After spending a night under the imposing Great Barranco Wall, the route then heads down through the Karanga Valley and goes over intervening ridges and valleys to join the Mweka Route, which will be your descent route.
You will start the summit hike walk at around 11:00pm from Baranko Camp to Summit
Day 5 Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp
From Barafu Camp (4,550 m/14,930 ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m/19,340 ft) to Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft).
Dinner you will overnight at Mweka Camp. FB
Day 6 Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate - Moshi
Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft) to Mweka Gate (1,980 m/6,500 ft) to Moshi (890 m/2,920 ft) 15 km, approximately 3 hours walking in Forest
At Mweka Gate, you can sign your name and add details in a register. This is also where successful climbers receive their summit certificates.

All Kilimanjaro climb packages include 2 nights hotel in Moshi with B & B plan. Our primary hotel for private climbs is The Maridad Hotel .If we can not get availability there we use La Mama Hotel. We can offer you a price without any Moshi accommodations included. Please ask us if you want to consider other options. If you book your own accommodations it is far better if the accommodations are in Moshi rather than Arusha.
