Introduction:
Umbwe Route is a short, steep route. Without a doubt, this is the most difficult route on the mountain. This is a little used route mostly chosen by well experienced climbers looking for the most challenging experience. For this reason, the six days itinerary is more often chosen since the seven days is not the most difficult option. This route starts off very quiet but becomes busy when it merges in with the Lemosho and Machame Routes. This route is offered only as a private trek.

Itinerary
Day 1 Moshi - Umbwe Gate - Umbwe Cave Camp
Depart from Moshi (890 m/2,920 ft) to Umbwe Gate (1,800 m/5,905 ft) to Umbwe Camp (2,800 m/9,190 ft) approx. 8km, 5-7 hours walking in a Montane forest
Dinner and overnight at the First cave campsite.
Day 2 Umbwe Cave Camp - Barranco Camp
Hike from Umbwe Camp (2,800 m/9,190 ft) to Barranco Camp (3,900 m/12,800 ft) 8 km, 4-5 hours semi-desert
Day 3 Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp (3,950 m/12,960 ft) to Karanga Camp
Day 4 Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp (4,550 m/14,930 ft)
Day 5 Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp
Barafu Camp (4,550 m/14,930 ft) - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp (3,100 m/10,170 ft)

Day 6 Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate - Moshi

All Kilimanjaro climb packages include 2 nights hotel in Moshi with B & B plan. Our primary hotel for private climbs is The Maridad Hotel .If we can not get availability there we use La Mama Hotel. We can offer you a price without any Moshi accommodations included. Please ask us if you want to consider other options. If you book your own accommodations it is far better if the accommodations are in Moshi rather than Arusha.
